I know, i know more iPhone app hype. At CloudRaker, we’ve brainstormed some app ideas but nothing beats this @#$%^! wild one. Tochnidot recently pitched this killer idea at TechCrunch 50. Imagine walking thru SOHO and looking thru your iPhone lens to see tags of food reviews of the various restaurants…or filtering it to see reviews given just by your friends. And that’s just scratching the surface. Anyway check out the video to understand why all the drooling and blather.

We just bought, not one, but two vintage 1957 London double-decker buses in Los Angeles! We are still figuring out what to do with them but we’ve got some ideas cooking….stay tuned.

Our friend Gwen,  a very talented Web Project Manager, is leaving us at the end of the week to meet new challenges and more importantly, to join her lover.  We had a “Last Supper” inspired lunch at Sur Bleury.

We wish her happiness and we’ll miss her a lot ;)

It’s been nearly a year since we started to think about the new theme for our corporate website, Cloudraker.com.  The image we had in mind for our central character, the Sherpa, in the midst of a huge mountain, was one of a Nepali loaded with a ton of luggage. Our sherpa would be equally strange and disparate, speaking a dialect nobody would understand.

We even thought that a user could ask questions to the Sherpa, and he would answer in his own incomprehensible language.

Here is one of the first illustrations of our Sherpa by talented illustrator, Eva Rollin:

The actual Sherpa on our site:

So you can imagine my surprise when I saw a living, breathing representation of this concept in an ad for Toshiba Canada Satelite notebooks, as part of their AskTheSherpa.ca campaign.

It’s very well executed and funny.

Ask a question to the Sherpa and he will answer you in his own dialect:

Ask The Sherpa

Before I even begin, I have to say that I didn’t really have a choice but to write this post. For several weeks now, I’ve been harassed, pursued and taxed to write on this corporate blog by my boss. Facing my perpetual refusals to write and participate, my boss, as a good torturer\mentor, decided to use his last weapon: “If you don’t write for the end of the week, you’re fired! So here’s is my first post under threat and mental torture ;)

Half-joking aside, I must say that beyond the exciting work I do as Director of the Interactive Experience, it is this relationship that I have with my bosses and colleagues at CloudRaker that satisfy me the most.  Ok, ok so the open office area, large work space, flexible hours, music, cold beer and foosball table are great but the corporate culture based on openness, honesty, “no-bullshit” as we like to call it, are what make a difference in our relationships in the office and with our clients.

No one here claims to possess the absolute truth.  I think that the “Dare to fail” mentality is what allows us to keep our sense of humor and have fun at work.  I know that, for me, the fun I have with my comrades every single day is what gives me the energy needed to go ahead and design interactive concepts that are fun, different and often make a difference, cause a spark, bring a smile to our customers’ customers. Even that threat from my boss is included in the fun I have here at CloudRaker.

I wish to share with you some moments in our daily work lives so you can get a sense of what I’m talking about:

Our latest Christmas party: CloudBowling 2007

A trip to New-York to brainstorm a concept for our client: CellFish NY

An outside we did to brainstorm the future of the company: Cloudside 2007

An in-house shooting for a client pitch: Make Over

And the fun I have with my boss (ya even with the same who threatened me) during our trip to Amsterdam with his iPhone as a Jukeboke: iPhone Jukebox
